It is estimated that China’s modernization will require imports of equipment and technology of about US$ 100 billion annually. Given ever improving living standards, people are paying more attention to their health. This also means that there is a constant increase in demand for access to dental services. Experts project that the dental market will quatruple before year 2010. Privately-run dental clinics have become an investment hot-spot as they work along with government institutions to meet the increased demand. The acceptance of the WTO’s policies has provoked a decrease of certain taxes applied to dental commerce, such as the import duty rate. Duties for certain dentistry products have dropped by as much as 40%. Although 30,000 dentists are registered with the Chinese Stomatological Society, it is believed that there are actually more than 100,000 operating dentists.
